The Department of Social Services has determined these living facilities now have a higher risk of medication related issues. New regulations covering the management of medication administration assistance and overall handling of medications have placed an onus on the facility’s administration to ensure training and education of staff. The level of care has escalated. The level of care for residents now being cared for in these facilities was found in skilled nursing facilities just 5-10 years ago. Add the burden of care required for those persons with cognitive impairment ranging mild to moderate, and medication management expertise has risen to new heights.
