The medication management of a single disease state now has a multitude of pharmacologic directions from which the prescriber can choose. The pharmaceutical industry continues to develop medications which augment and not necessarily duplicate currently available therapies. So when there was only one medication available for a disease treatment now there are multiple. Considering few patients have but one diagnosis which requires treatment, the task to balance the movement towards the therapeutic goal vs minimizing untoward effects is becoming overwhelming.
